We're fifteen year subscribers to MM and subsequently enjoyed Miles Cook's August 2006 writing on overdrive transmission swaps.  We have a '65 Mustang Convertible equipped with a good C4 and 289 2V. Also lingering for over ten years in our garage is a complete '95 5/0 motor with an original 11,000 miles on it.

We love our AOD equipped later Mustangs and have always dreamed of transplanting the '95 5/0 for the original 289 - - along with a suitable AOD - - in the '65 convert.  Miles noted a preference towards the 86-93 AOD.  Would there be an advantage in using the slightly older model AOD, if we elected a total engine-trans transplant?  Or, is there some advantage in retaining the entire '95 package?  I do have a '95 torque converter available, as well.

Last, is there a specialized book available on such Mustange engine/transmission swap work, or a few key articles we could access?  -All help appreciated.

Ford Mustang Research
Ford Mustang When looking for your next vehicle, think about the Ford Mustang, a stylish car with nice features. The Mustang gets 16 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway, and has drivers side crash test ratings of 5 stars and passengers side crash test ratings of 5 stars. You also might want to research the Ford Explorer and the Lincoln MKS.
