DOES ANYONE KNOW IF I CAN REPLACE MY 1966 289 WITH A 1989 MERCURY 302? I WILL BE REMOVING THE FUEL INJECTION. WILL THE MOTOR BOLT UP TO MY AUTO TRANS? CAN I SWAP OUT THE FRONT COVER AND USE THE OIL PAN FROM THE 1966 ON THE 1989 BLOCK? IS THE FIRING ORDER THE SAME? WILL MY DISTRIBUTOR FIT THE NEWER BLOCK?
THANK YOU

The motor will bolt up to the trans. Use an early oil pump pickup tube with the early pan (front sump). The firing order is the same. You have to change the drive gear on your distributor to one compatible to the roller cam gear. The distributor gear for a non roller cam will be chewed up.
