We purchased a 1969 428 cj in Colorado.  It had been stolen years before and the thieves removed all the VINs from the door, windshield and fenderwells.  Someone mentioned to us that the VIN may also have been stamped on the frame wells.  Does anyone know if this is true and if so, where it might be?  We think we know what the VIN should be, but heed help proving it and getting it changed.

I also own a '69 but it's a 351W.  I have been told that the VIN should be stamped somewhere on the engine block iteself. Unfortunately, when I tried to find out where exactly, I was informed that my particular engine may or may not be stamped (50% chance).  If it was, it would be on the firewall side near the intake, but his may be different for your 428.  I contacted many restoration garages but the only one who told me the above info was KAR Auto Group (Thanks Guys!!!).

Early Mustangs also have the VIN stamped on the left fwd and right aft front fender aprons. I believe this is true for the 69  model year as well.  In 69, the VIN tag was moved by ford from the RH dash to the LH dash also along with the mylar sticker on the LH door.  You need to lift the right rear front fender off of the aft apron to uncover the code.if it's been tampered with, you're pretty much screwed.

Ford Mustang Research
Ford Mustang When looking for your next vehicle, think about the Ford Mustang, a stylish car with nice features. The Mustang gets 16 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway, and has drivers side crash test ratings of 5 stars and passengers side crash test ratings of 5 stars. You also might want to research the Ford Explorer and the Lincoln MKS.
