My 06 Mustang GT has 9000 on the clock. At 3000 the rubber that I suppose funtions as a boot for an automatic became bunched up not allowing me to select park. I took the car in for service and they replaced the complete shifter. Now with 9000 I have the same problem. I took it back to the dealer. The shop forman said they would fix it until ford got ( Wise ). Wise to what I asked. I have had several cars and one suv ( all fords ) with auto shift in the floor and 100000 + on the clocks and I have never had this problem. I love the car. It is every thing that I hoped it would be but I am starting to question should I have purchased the manual. Please tell me I am not alone with this problem. In case this continues to be an ongoing problem is there an after market shifter that will work with the consol?

My 05 GT did the same thing with 8000 on it and it was replaced at the dealer they told me that I must have been manually up and down shifting the automatic. I told them that I don't beat on my first brand new car. I brought it back a month and a half ago with the same problem. This time they replaced it with a part that is what they said the new design. Its looks and feels the same I wonder if they just said that. I couldn't find any info on the net about it. I'm glad to hear this has happened to others.- Ron

Thanks for the reply. Just got back from the dealer with my car. Same type shifter, if it is a new design the shop forman didnt say. I still love the car. But I would bet that it will have to go back for the same thing. We will see. I plan to keep mine for a long time. - Dave
