I recently bought a 1970 convertable. the title is 70, the vin is 70, the back of the car is a 70, but the front is a 69, there is no sign of an accident or repair. It still has what looks like factory mnarks and numbers. Is it a factory left over from 69 in 70 using up the extra parts. has anyone heard of this or seen this befor.

My guess is that your '70 convertible suffered some minor frontend damage at some point in its past and a previous owner replaced it with 69 components, probably from a parts car. I think it is very unlikely that Ford would have used left-over 69 parts for the front end, which was changed considerably for 70.

Maybe you could do some research on the 69/70 mustang. The stamping for the fender on the 70 will read 69. I guess you never worked on a 90s thunderbird or mustang a 93 t-bird will have 89 stamped into them. or a 93 mustang will 87 stamped into it.
