Howdy,

A dear friend of mine told me a story about his brother that was in a 1997 issue of Mustang Monthly Magazine in the "Why I bought my Mustang" column or something similiar to that. The friend's brother was a guy named Mel Blue from Iowa and he bought it because he was just diagnosed with Hodgkin disease and a 1969 Mach I was a car that he always wanted. Mel died and the widow sold the car. The brother found it this year and bought it back 10 years after his brother died. He keeps the car in tribute to his brother Mel. I learned of it while attending a high school reunion last week. My friend said that he would love to get a copy of the specific issue or column. Can anyone out there help me? I have a request into the publisher as well.

I did a search for Mel Blue at www.hammar.dyndns.org/magsrdh.htm, which is a reader-generated search engine for Mustang Monthly articles. I wasn't able to turn up the article so will have to go into our archives and search through the 1997 issues. I'll do that when I get a chance.

Thank you for the response and thank you for the effort. I did call my friend to re-confirm his story as we were drinking a couple of beers and admiring Mel's car which is indeed a thing of beauty. My dates are just a little of, Mel passed away in June of 1997 and Tim believes that the article was possibly in a 1996 issue of Mustang Monthly. He said that it was an article that covered several people and dealt with why they bought their Mustang and of course I have shared with you Mel's story.
