Hello My name is Greg and I own a '69 mustang convertible.  I am hoping somebody can help me identify and fix some eletrical issues on my car.  For starters My tail lights will come on but my the brake and turn signal do not work on the driver side light.  The light does not turn off when those signals are used it just stays the same.  The passenger taillight functions properly.
Secondly My instrument panel will not illuminate.  I checked the bulbs and they are okay.  The automatic transmission light will illuminate and the turn signal arrows work but none of the gauges will light up.  If anybody has any clues on what I should try or do to fix this problem I would greatly appreciate it.
In reference to the tail light issue I have replaced the complete rear harness with one from my coupe that was fully functional and it still doesn;t work.  The convertible had a harness in it with the drivers taillightwiring messed up before I replaced it.  I hope that will help give someone a clue on how to fix this problem.  Thank you

Hi Greg, looks like the problem you have is with the turn signal switch not the wiring. I had the same problem, replaced the turn signal switch and boom! problem solved.

First it sounds as if you may have more then one  problem.Brake lights and turn indicators are all wired through the turn signal switch in the steering colomn. It's very common for those to wear out and replacing it may fix everything.
Second you need to check if your brake light switch is working.
This is located on the brake pedal under the dash and is also a common problem.
Third check the headlight switch. The dash lights are controlled by this switch.Try twisting the knob clock wise & counter clockwise to the domelight click and back.IF the lights flicker or come on for an instant or still don't work replace the switch. Please make sure all bulbs are good.Hope this helps

I have a 65 couple, 289 auto. I have a similar isse BUT my dash and tail lights go out. Then for no reason they will come back on.

Headlights and front turn signals are OK as is the turn signal indicator in the dash.

Likewise any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks

Your description of the first issue is a little confusing.  Are you saying the turn light comes on and doesn't blink? If that's the case it's possibly the front bulb bad and the flasher doesn't have enough current to heat up and flash. If it doesn't come on at all, it's probably in the TS switch since the brake circuit also uses the TS switch to distribute the rear lights. The easiest way to tell is the remove the bulb and check for voltage with the TS for that side turned on. Work back thru the circuit untill you get to the TS switch.

For your inst pnl light issue, check the fuse and check that the light knob is not rotated fully off (yes it happens). the TS arrows and AT light are not on the dash light circuits.
