As you can probably tell i have a 1987 fox lx mustang. My dad and me have been trying to figure out what could be the problem for my dash lights not working.  Some of them work such as turn signals, high beam, and the amp light. All the other lights dont work. Does anyone have an idea of what could be wrong? That and my fuel gauge dont work. As you also can tell i dont know much about cars.

id replace the battery first. the car is more than 20 years old and an old battery can really kill a car's electronics. you also might want to check out the wiring. Id advise professional help, wiring can get really messy for an amateur

i would check the dash dimmer control as everthing you are having trouble with goes thru this.  the gas gauge not working is some times caused by the solder joints on the back-side of the gauge itself.

I can tell you exactly what it is.  You need to replace the bulbs behind the instrument gauge cluster.  They are part number 194LL.  You can get a box of 10 of them for about 3 bucks at Autozone.  Mustang Montly has a good article that tells you how to replace a tachometer.  I'll give you the link.  Obviously you don't have to replace the tach but if you follow their instructions up to the part where you get the gauge cluster out you are there.  On the back side of the instrument cluster there are little black knobs that unscrew and come right out.  These are the light bulb holders.  Just unscrew them and pull them out.  Then replace the bulb and put them back in.  I guarantee this will do it.  If you have at lease one thing lit on the dash you know you have power to the dash so it isn't the dimmer switch.  Here is the link.  I hope this helps.  http://www.mustangmonthly.com/techarticles/mump_0703_fox_body_mustang_tachometer/photo_02.html
