I have a 65 Mustang (260, no a/c, no power steering)and want to convert to an alternator.  I would like to keep it as simple as I can.  I have looked for answers, but not exactly what I'm looking for.  What alternator do I need, do I need a new bracket, spacer, regulator, belt, single or double pulley, etc.  Anyone out there done it or know what to do.  Thanks for your help.

http://www.mustangsteve.com/GENtoALT just add a .html to the end of that

Here is a diagram off the mustangsteve.com site.

I believe you will need a new bracket, regulator, spacer, belt, pulley single grove (since no ac). As for the Alt, I assume you do not care about originality so any auto store should be able to help. other stuff should be avaible at any mustang grave yard, Ebay or part vendor.

good luck
