HEY EVERYONE
I AM TRYING TO FIND SOME INFO ON THE 1966 ANNIVERSARY GOLD COMMEMORATIVE CARS THAT WERE BUILT TO CELEBRATE THE 1 MILLIONTH MUSTANG ROLLING OFF OF THE ASSEMBLY LINE....I CAN'T FIND ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET.....I ONLY KNOW BITS AND PIECES.... THEY WERE METALLIC GOLD WITH BLACK DELUXE INTERIOR...THATS ABOUT IT. I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY WERE PRODUCED. THE REASON I WANT TO FIND OUT OTHER THAN FURTHERING MY KNOWLEDGE OF MUSTANGS IS BECAUSE I THINK MY DAD MAY HAVE OWNED ONE. HE HAD A 1966 GOLD MUSTANG WITH BLACK DELUXE INTERIOR AND A 289ci...I KNOW THAT DOES'NT CRACK THE CASE...I'M SURE THERE WERE MANY OTHER CARS THAT WERE GOLD WITH BLACK DELUXE INTERIOR THAT WERE NOT THE 1 MILLION COMMEMORATIVE CARS...ANY INFORMATION YOU COULD PROVIDE WILL BE APPRECIATED
THANKS, BARRY L.

Here's the info from Jim Smart's Mustang Production Guide:
Despite all the hype at Ford over the One Millionth Anniversary in March of 1966, In Search of Mustangs has unearthed just two of the special, limited-edition 1966 Mustangs that commemorate that anniversary. According to legend, and articles that have appeared in various magazines, each Ford Division sales district received one of the One Millionth Anniversary Mustangs. Each Mustang was a hardtop coupe, clad in Anniversary Gold (no color code), and with a six-digit DSO code.
It has been a long time since anyone submitted an Anniversary Gold 1966 Mustang to In Search of Mustangs. Paul Moore of Mesa, Arizona, submitted the first, 6R08C177412, with a scheduled assembly date code of 29C, and a DSO code of 331111. Not long after that we heard from Keith Howarth of St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Keith's Anniversary Gold hardtop, 6R07C177437, also sported a date code of 29C and a DSO code of 331111.
It is apparent to us that the Anniversary Gold Mustangs were all assembled at San Jose in one lot, with less than 50 units going to Ford Division sales districts across North America. It's a good guess that all of the Anniversary Gold hardtops were identically equipped. We're unable to ascertain the exact number, nor can we say with certainty that all the DSO codes were 331111. We have to wonder if these hardtops were the product of some sort of dealer sales competition, like the '641/2 Indy Pace Car coupes.

HI, BARRY I HAVE 2 OF THESE CARS. THE FIRST ONE I BOUGHT 16 YEARS AGO FROM THE SON OF THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND IT HAS A DSO 511111, WHICH WOULD INDICATE IT CAME FROM THE DENVER AREA. THE SECOND ONE HAS A DSO OF 331111 INDICATING IT CAME FROM DETROIT. 51111 HAS A BLACK INTERIOR [66A] 331111 HAS A WHITE INTERIOR [F6A] WHICH GOES COMPLETELY AGAINST THE THEORY THAT THEY ALL HAD BLACK INTERIOR. ALL THE STD EQUIPMENT IS THE SAME BETWEEN THE CARS EG; V8, AT, PS, PB, PONY INTERIOR, STYLED STEEL WHEELS, EXCEPT 331111 HAS A CONSOLE AND 511111 DOES NOT. JUST AS A MATTER OF INTEREST AND COINCIDENCE, I BOUGHT BOTH OF THESE CARS ON THE SAME STREET, IN THE SAME TOWN OF 2K PEOPLE, 16 YEARS APART. THE GUY I BOUGHT 33111 FROM WAS GOING TO CUT IT UP AND MAKE A RACE CAR OUT OF IT. IF YOU OR ANYONE WANT ANYMORE INFO ON THESE CARS YOU CAN EMAIL ME AT GT500@ROGUERIVER.NET. DAVE

HEY BARRY ANYTIME FORD USED A SPECIAL COLOR THAT WAS NOT USED IN PRODUCTION THEY WOULD LEAVE THE COLOR CODE BLANK. YOU WILL ALSO NOTICE THAT IN ALMOST EVERY CASE THAT IN THE 65'S AND 66'S THAT THE QUARTER PANEL ORNAMENT WAS LEFT OFF. DAVE

I recently purchased a gold mustang DSO 731111 (seattle) R code (San Jose) and date code 29C from a lady whom bought it from the original owner. It was in storage since 1985. The original owner remembers winning it. As for unique options, it has a seat belt courtesy light, power drum brakes, black pony interios, NO paint code, steel wheels, no power steering (although they may have removed the pump, further investigation needed). I am excited to own such a rare car.

That's awesome........I wish my dad still had his.....not sure if it was truly a commemerative mustang or not, but I know it was a gold 66 with black deluxe interior. He bought it off a used car lot in south florida in 67,(practically brand new)It was sold a few years later..........there's just that small nagging chance that it could have been one........it's the mystery of not knowing for sure that haunts me.

Hi folks,
I recently heard about these special one millionth anniversary edition Mustangs, and was thinking about hunting one up. I'm not real familiar with what they go for and was wondering if you folks might have a ballpark idea on what would be a fair price to pay for one that is already restored or very clean if I can find one? If not, and I am able to find a project car that is pretty much all there, but needs a total resto, what would be a fair buy-in price for the project? If I do all the work myself except shooting the color coat, do you think I could restore one for 25-30k?
Thanks a lot for any helpful advice and info you can share.
Don
