Hi. Was hoping someone might be able to help with this. I have a 71 302 that I have rebuilt and want to put a t-5 on it. What years should I look for? Or what mods would a late model require? (bell housings and so on) thanks

Yeah Polithium ,,, there are a lot of sites out there devoted to this conversion so plenty of info,,,in fact Mustang monthly did an article in this months mag so see that one too. Ford put T-5's in mustangs starting in 1983 but didnt use the "world class" until 1985,,so the ones you want are from 1985 till 1993. These can be easily swapped in. If you have a manual trans in your mustang you can use that bellhousing with a spacer because the T-5 has a longer input shaft(then keep your same clutch linkage). If you have an Auto or you just dont want to use a spacer then get the corresponding bellhousing(and block plate) from those years mustang and you can changeover to a cable clutch or use a hydraulic clutch, but you need the later bellhousing if you use a cable clutch. You will need a new crossmember for the T-5 and a mount(it uses a C-4 mount). The driveshaft will have to be shortened by 3/4 to 1 inch and a new T-5 yoke installed. The speedo cable uses a C-4 type gear, not the same as the manual for your mustang. The shifter will pop up in the same hole however some minor trim may be necessary(very minor). You will love the new gears and it will allow you to go to a steeper rear gear if you choose to do so. Good luck. Parts are available from most mustang suppliers like Mustangs Plus. Places like Keisler engineering make a complete kit. I believe new manufacture has ceased on the T-5 but there are still many out there in the aftermarket and at junkyards.
