Is This a Good Time to Restore a Mustang?

Approximately 4 weeks ago I carried my 68 Fastback in for a complete restoration. Each night as I watch the evening news, I ask myself if I am doing the right thing given the unknowns about the economy right now. Did I do the right thing from an investment standpoint?

You can never go wrong restoring a 68 Fastback, no matter what economy we're in.  Not only will the car retain its value, but it is all about the pleasure you get out of restoring it and then enjoying it.
Now your own personal situation may dictate whether it is a good time to do the restoration.  I mean, if your company is threatening layoffs or if their sales are down drastically, then maybe the time might not be good.  But if that's the case, just postpone the restoration but keep the car.
Good luck with whatever you end up doing and post a link to some pictures when you're done.  Use Photobucket or Picasa or some other site.

There are so many variables to that question from is it a highly optioned GT / big block car or a plain Jane 6-cylinder?  Are you looking for an investment or the pure enjoyment of the hobby?

Paying for a first class restoration and then trying to flip it is questionable.  Paying for a first class restoration and then enjoying showing the car and driving it for years to come is not.

I always ask people if you think its expensive now (classic Mustangs and Muscle cars), then just wait five years and see what the price will be. Your question is one that only you and your wallet can decide.

Well worth the investment then. I agree with the guys above,,,, do it with the intention of enjoying the car. If you keep it a few years, you wont be losing money on that car.  Its a highly sought after mustang and one you can proud to take to shows. Most of us enjoy that ,,, going to mustang and local hot rod shows to talk and get pointers from everyone else in the hobby. There are great people in this hobby , always willing to help and talk. To me thats the real payoff. I enjoy driving a car that isnt depreciating but to be part of this great hobby is so much fun. You will wish you had done it sooner.

Hello, I have a 1969 Mach 1.  The body is in good shape, but the original engine burned up in a fire and there are a lot of replaced parts.  I can not find any door codes since the plate is missing.  It is painted in a BOSS 302 paint scheme using blue and silver paint from a 1993 Ford Ranger.  I got the car for 1500, have spent 2500 or more, and the paint needs to be redone at an estimated 4000-4500.  The car has American Racing 15 inch wheels, front disk brakes, and a new aluminum radiator.  Should I repaint?  Is it worth it?  Should I go back to the original(if I can even find out what the original color was) or keep the retromod paint scheme?  It is a head turner, but another 5000 to 6000 seems like a lot.

I am at work right now and I may have to leave this site quickly. LOL.  If I do, any comments and help can be sent to my email at tsimeroth@ci.temple.tx.us
Thanks for any help.
PS, how do I get the right dimensions for the BOSS stripes if i want paint and not tape?
