I have a 65 fastback with 289 4brl. It was running great until I replaced the distributor with Pentronix. I replaced the wires and coil. I can't seem to get it to fire. I pulled the #1 plug and set it to TDC but still nothing.
any advice?

My first thought would be----have you installed it properly? Since you just bought the unit and are having trouble installing it, why not call Prtronix' customer service. They'll be able to help you trouble shoot your problem. Try that first, if they can't or won't help, then we can start trouble shooting from here. Hope this helps, Jay67fast

It's a little bit of an art to get the dist stuck back in at TDC. Are you absoultely sure your not a tooth or so off?
Alternatively, is it wired correctly per Pertronix's instructions? Is it actually producing spark and the engine won't lite off? or is it not even sparking?
I also recall reading that someone mentioning that a certain pertronix dist. can only be used with a specific pertronics coil. Do you have that model?

The Distr, coil and plugs are all made by Pentronix. I'll check it tonight to see if I'm getting fire to the plugs. Thanks Dg

Yes, the rotor came installed with the new Pertronix distr. I've went through the wireing and moved the distr 1 tooth. It fires but will not stay running. It cuts off immediately after it fires. What else should I try? Here's the fireing order: 15426378

Problem solved, I think. I found an article from this website: "1971 Mustang Mach 1 & 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback - Beyond The Basics"
I jumped a wire from the positive side of the coil to the bat. and the car stayed running.
Check out the article if you are having similar problems. It's dark now so I haven't completed the fix but I'm happy with the results so far. Thanks Mustang Monthly and all that replied!

yep, having a positive 12V at the coil from the battery is pretty important to having fire at the plugs.
