95 Cobra, Starting Now Running Issues

My wife's stock 95 Cobra began having intermittent starting problems a few months ago.  I was never present during the starting problems and can't describe them precisely.  Per my wife, the car would crank but not start.  After a few attempts it would eventually start.  Later she described a brief surging while driving down the road.  A local mechanic did a complete diagnostic scan and caught a brief drop in fuel pressure at one point during the scan.  He guessed that it could be the fuel pump, and we agreed to have it replaced.  When my wife first got the car back she smelled a fuel odor that the mechanic explained away as some fuel that he spilled while replacing the gas tank.  It soon became apparent that fuel was leaking from where the fill spout enters the tank, and we returned the car.  He replaced the seal, which he should have done in the first place after dropping the tank IMO , no charge.  My wife experienced the same symptoms and he hooked up a memory storage device to the OBD outlet.  When my wife returned it a week later, it had recorded nothing.  The mechanic then drove it a couple of days with the device attached and said that he experienced a starting problem, still nothing recorded.  My wife says that she can still smell a slight fuel odor, and the engine has died several times while driving down the road in the past month in addition to starting problems.

Could it be a problem with the ignition switch?  ECU?  Bad wire/connection/ground?    Any ideas from others are greatly appreciated.

Has the fuel filter been replaced? I see no mention of it.

Hi
My wife's 95 cobra has the EXACT same problem. It just has 40k miles on it. She drives it 3 - 5 miles a day. And, none on weekends. The same problem as yours has been happening for months. In fact, she had to leave it at Bally's this afternoon because it wouldn't start. It turns over just fine but won't start.  We are going to go get it after I finish this post.

We have had it in the shop a couple of times. We paid for a complete tune-up, replacing everything, including coil packs. It still did it. We were told the "almost new" battery wasn't strong enough at another shop. Replaced that ... it still does it. . And, have  spoken to several people. Oh, we were told it was the fuel filter - replaced it.

Have you found the answer?    HELP!.

Regards
Jack & Jennifer
Did you figu

This is really a matter that you probably throw the money at a Ford factory certified technican (or really sharp independent ASE certified technician)to solve, changing a bunch of parts is not the best way to deal with it nor is going back to guy that can't find what's wrong.
