Need assistance on how to install the pedal spring on a 66 convertible.  Was told the pedal was flopping back and forth because the spring is missing. Purchased a new spring, looked easy enough to install, but I am stumped.  Thanks for the help.  

I don't have a good picture but it only fits correctly one way. If you look at the NPD catolog page 120, it may give you an orientation perspective you haven't considered.  

Talk about great timing - I just posted this question myself, and managed to figure it out...there is a thread over at Ford Mustang Forums describing it in detail, but I'll do my best to describe (keep in mind that, in the end, I discovered I have a different set up than *most* 66's, so no wonder I was confused).

Anyhoo - first make sure you have the right hardware:  you should have 1 special bolt that is only threaded part way, a flat retaining nut, and the spring.  If you look at the spring itself, the long "L" part goes against the top part of the pedal, threaded underneath the bolt (I put mine on after I had bolted the pedal on...I was told in the beginning that you had to put the spring on first but I rebelled   ).  So, looking down on the pedal towards the floorboard, the uppermost part of the long "L" of the spring is pointing up (it kinda hooks under the rubber of the pedal), goes down flush against the pedal, underneath the bolt on the right side of the pedal shaft, and then the short end is bent back and hooks on the pedal shaft, on the side the pedal is on.  Essentially, the spring is designed to hold the top part of the pedal towards the driver.

Hopefully that helps...if need be, I *might* be able to get a photo, although it's a tricky spot.

I appreciate your response.  I was able to install almost exactly as you described only I didn't run mine under the bolt.  That sounds like a more secure way of connecting it, so I'll give that a shot.  Thanks again.
