Hi guys, Recently my father and I purchased a '67 for quite a fair price. But the VIN is a salvaged VIN.
VIN: NCS838335S72B3417
The person we bought it from didn't know much about its' past and the owner before him isn't providing us with much help. So my question is, does anyone know how to go about tracking down an original VIN from a salvaged one? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm a young owner trying to learn everything I can about these wonderful vehicles. Thanks.

You can have your VIN deciphered to know exactly what you have if you Google "Marti Report."

Yeah, I read about that in the newest issue. Sadly, on the site, it only allows VIN #'s up to 11 characters. My salvaged VIN is too long. Thats why I am trying to track down the original VIN, I want a Marti Report.

I do not know what they do to issue a new vin on a salvage title in NC, but the original number is stamped on the inner fender on the drivers side. It was originally able to be seen without removing the fender. It is about half way between the headlight and the hood hinge on the top edge(the black part). That number may still be there or it could be covered with some type of tag. I also believe the same number is stamped into the inner fender on the passenger side but you must remove the fender to see it. This is all from memory and it may not be 100% accurate, or many people replace these pieces during restoration and the numbers may be gone. Good luck. Tom

Thanks Tom. From what we were told when we bought the car, the car was totaled. Basically, the front fenders had to be replaced and everything. So those numbers are gone

All may not be lost, the original VINs are on the fender aprons not the fenders. Left side front apron about 12" from the radiator brace end. The right front rear fender apron underneath the fender. Have a look.

The salvage VIN is only on the title to the car. The original stamped vin will be attached to a data plate on the left door or will be stamped on the left front fender apron next to the fender. I found that on some '67 models Ford stamping was a little off and the left front fender will cover the VIN if the car was in an accident. DMV should also be able to track down the original from the salvage VIN but you might have to send a letter to Raleigh to get the info as the license plate agencies will not have that information.
