I am having major issues with my driver side door handle. The parts on the inside to actuate the latch are loosely attached on the inside and i have tried everything to repair it. Does anyone know of a good "HOW-TO" for repairing this. I have a 1973 repair book and a new Chilton's but none do well at addressing this problem. I'm sure i need to get a new harware kit.

Is this something i should tackle myself or have a professional handle?

I know I have the same problem with my 67 except that the screw that holds it in fell all the way out and my handle's button fell into the door I fixed it once with a lot of aggravation by taking the door panel off and just feeling around but the screw came out again just as I was finishing if you find a good way to fix it tell me plz

There is a really good exploded view of the door latch mechanism on pg 201 of the NPD catalog.  If you have looseness issues look for missing or wornout parts.

The screw that holds everything in place is where I have an issue. I had to tighten it at least once every couple weeks and it finally came out and everything fell into the door. I'll check out the NPD catalog and see if it will help. Thanks

I am having a similar issue.  The inside handle works fine to open the door and if i jam the button in hard on the outside of the door, it occassionally works.  I spoke to the guys at "Mustang of Chicago" and they said this is normal.  I disagree, this is NOT normal!  What is the NPD catalog and where can i get it?

Yeah, if you have to jam it hard, something is worn out, I think I'd try to find some other "Mustang guys"

NPD = national parts depot. IMO- They are one of the premier sellers of parts for Mustangs in the country. Google for them and you'll find a link to their catalog for download.
