I am replacing the badly rusted, and dented door shells on my '66 Coupe. I have received the aftermarket shells, and noticed that the existing bolts that held the old door on the hinge do not fit into this new shell. As a matter of fact the new shell does not have threads to accept any bolt at all... Is this common? I am assuming that I will have to drill, and tap the holes to accomplish my swap. I guess I do not really have a question, but would appreciate any helpful tips, and suggestions that anyone has to offer, as I am attacking all projects myself. I have repaired leaky cowl vents, and replaced my hood so far...these doors and a new front valance will hopefully complete all I need to be able to begin body/paint work...
Thanx 66StangDug

My replacement shells came with smaller bolt holes and threaded inserts than my 66 originally used. If you don't have threaded plates, I would take them back or clal them and ask why (at minimum)or get some with threaded plates. It's been a while since I've looked, but I don't think you can pull the old threaded plates out of the old doors and reuse them in the new ones.

I appreciate the advise. Any tips on hanging doors nice and straight?? It look like it will be quite a chore to do so easily...

I take the rear striker off of the door jamb so i can adjust the front gaps and overall gaps. From there I re-install the striker and adjust the latch from there.
