After you have disconnected all the bolts on the bellhousing and related hardware(like starter, driveshaft and trans mount, shifter etc), support the trans on a transmission jack and then take off the inspection cover at the bellhousing and remove the four bolts from the flex plate to the torgue convertor(the torgue convertor has the starter ring on it). Its a little hard to get at these bolts because you have to rotate the convertor around and they are very tight. After you remove these the trans will pull away from the engine. Otherwise you will be trying to pull the torgue convertor out of the transmission housing,,,which is possible but may damage the convertor or internal pump housing. Also the trans would have to come straight back about 9 inches which isnt possible in a lot of combinations.

Thanks for the advice. I have those four bolts out and am trying to lift the motor out but it still will not seperate from the tranny. I was considering unhooking all the connections to the tranny and trying to move it back from the motor. Or taking the engine and tranny out as a package.
I have a set of shop manuals and believe I have disconnected everything reccommended to pull the engine. I thought there mat be some trick not in the manual.

Hmm no tricks no ,,, you do have to get seperation from the flex plate to the torgue convertor. the flex plate is bolted to the crank and the torgue convertor slides into the tranny so make sure it is clear of the four studs on the convertor. Its usually easy to make it seperate as there is some clearance there. You did remove the starter right? It might be easier to pull out the engine mounts then you have some forward movement of the engine. They can be pulled out from underneath.

You got the top trans to engine bolts out too? (I believe there's 6 bolts total + 4 TC that holds engine to the trans)
