Greetings all,
I have a 66 fastback, 289. I obtained a set of hooker headers (new - part #6901)) from a friend. I have single exhaust now but want to convert to dual. What complete systems are out there that you all have used that work well with the hookers? Diameter of the exhaust outlet looks to be 2 3/4 inch do I need a reducer to go to 2 1/2? I have seen some that come with x-pipe and some that don't. If I have to get an X-pipe separately, what are some good ones?
thanks all.

Those are full tube headers, so you need an exhaust system thats will bolt up with them.  i believe magnaflow makes a set in stainless steel with an x-pipe that would be a direct fit.  Check out summitracing.com.  One thing to consider will be with any dual exhaust set, you will probably have to mount a hanger under the back seat area through the floor pan into the passenger compartment.  Hope that helps

Yep, I saw those on Summit and thought they would work but wasn't sure. The instructions included on the website does indicate you need to mount the hangars under the back seat area.
Thanks man.

I have a 66 fastback with Hookers and used the American Thunder kit from FlowMaster. Had to mount hangers near stock mounting area ahead of rear axle and also on each side at the rear sub frame. Instructions made it easy. Everything hung and fit up great. Had them welded up at the muffler shop. On a 1 - 5 scale, 2.

Just a warning.  If you have the hangars welded onto the floor, then take out the back seat, sound deadener and all.  That welder will burn up the sound deadener and possibly the seat before you can put out the fire.  Ask me how I know.

The hangers were not welded to attach but holes were drilled and washers and nuts applied in the seat area. The hangers in the back used existing holes where the factory tie downs were still on my GT-350.

OK good.  Now all you have to worry about is have you put anything on those bolts to prevent rust?

No, I'm not worrying and no, nothing on those bolts.

I suggest a primer and paint if they are steel bolts.  I can't recall how many times I have had to cut off rusty bolts and nuts. If they are galvanized or stainless, then no worries.
