morning all - I am new to the mustang forums but i must say after the last few weeks researching looking at cars to rent I cant help but feel whilst enjoying our American dream road trip the mustang is the way forward.
we have been offered anything from a chrysler to toyota solaris convertible...thoughts?
our trip includes LA - SAN fran - Yosemite - Vegas - LA over a couple of weeks in late September
Can anyone recommend any rentals in LA or indeed whether its worth upgrading to a GT or alike - money is limited but the dream lives on.
we have been quoted around $1000 for a couple of weeks for a standard mustang (no year mentioned).... should we upgrade to a GT or see if they have a specific years model - i fear a shelby would be out of the question
am open to suggestions - have a nice day - mark

Yeah, if you really want to live it up, try to find a Shelby GTH500 at a Hertz place. Other than that, a Cobra would be a fun one to drive. A GT would be your third choice. If you just get a V6 Muskrat, you may as well drive one of the other brands.

Last two times I traveled to Southern Cal I rented Mustangs thru Hertz at the airport and enjoyed them very much. Both were V-6 cars and surprisingly good performers. One was a convertible and the other a coupe.
I was more interested in cruising and paying for the gas than "drag racing" and had a ball. Even a V-6 Mustang is more fun than most of the other rental vehicles offered. I have a couple of V-8 Mustangs at home for my performance needs.
Have fun and enjoy your trip.

If you looking for the dream the go for it personally, id go for the mustang gt convertible and hit some of the canyon roads everyone talks about. Now i build the toyota solara and will say that i have mixed reviews about that car yea it looks good but go for the the dream and the big cheesy smile youll have to boot.

slight change of user name I am afraid
but thanks for all your replies, being set here in the UK the mustang is the vehicle of choice whilst in the US.
Am glad that people seem to think that the V6 is a good motor, was a little worried when it was references as musrat ( i must confess i did laugh and start googling GT etc)
bearing in mind the costs, I am happy to do the v6/ v8 convertible....cant wait : )
cheers - Mark
