I just picked up this little '65 coupe that has 28,347 origional miles. No rust just needs some tender loving care. My brother found it for me sitting in a barn for the last 36 years. Was told it has not driven since '72. I am really looking forward to getting this thing all shined up! Here are a couple of pictures.

nice prize car!  take a good look at the fenders for potential rustout and take a magnet to the body looking for thick patches of bondo. You'll be able to buy justa about any thing you want to restore it's original beauty. Welcome to the forum.

Shut Up!    I envy the hell outa someone who gets so lucky.  I have been hearing about barn finds for 45 years now.  Be sure to drain  and replace all fluids, and try to turn the engine over manually by using the front nut on the flywheel.  I would also imagine that anything rubber, especially in the engine compartment, wiring, hoses, etc, will need replacing.

What a nice find. It looks like it is in pretty good shape. I have a 65 coupe too..I thought mine was in pretty good shape although it does have some rust on it. Your interior is in really good. I am jealous.

That's nice! Ya, you'd be surprised what you can find sitting around in old farms, that farmers just want to get RID off.

Heck, I got my '65 V8 289 Coupe, with about 10,000 miles on it from a little mexican farmer outside of my town, for about a thousand.

I also bought an almost mint condition 76 stingray corvette with only 8,000 miles on it in Kansas. Bought it for 3 grand, and it runs GREAT.

Definitely a good catch! fix her up and show us the final product!

Man I replaced the tank and sending unit, fuel pump, and all fluids. Dropped the oil pan(to take a look) and pulled the valve covers. All looked wonderful!! I then replaced the battery and guess what. It started without any problem! (It does need a muffler tho!) The only leak I can find is the rear transmission seal. I am so surprised! Man this is a good car! I am even more impressed now that I have had a chance to go thru it. I took the wheels off and checked the brakes. While in the front end I removed the wheel bearings to check them and repack and what a surprise. The bearing look like they have never turned. LOL The seals were still the origional and I could not believe it but they were still in very good shape. I replaced them anyway while I was there but kept the origionals to show off. LOL Now I need to get it a few items replaced such as, Shocks, tires and wheels, wiper blades, washer hoses, and muffler. Then I should be able to get it registered so I can drive it a couple of times before I get it painted.

I do have one question, do I need to do anything to the heads to run unleaded fuel? I have heard that I should get the valve seats replaced but I thought I had better as the experts. So what do you guys think?

Valve seat replacement is advisable on engines running high compression,,,heavy duty or racing. It doesnt sound to me like your doing any of that. You probably wont have a problem. I have had several of these engines (before induction hardened seats)and I have never had a problem. The issue is more apparent in later model engines that ran extremely lean,,, these engines ran hotter and oxygen was present in the exhaust gas. As the oxygen past the seat on its way out the exhaust,,it took an iron molecule with it,,,thus eroding the seat. I would not worry much on a carbureted 65 model.
