Well Im back, I want to sart working on my loose shifter this week, but I read somewhere that before I go out and spend money on a new one I might be able to replace some bushings. My question is are these parts available at local auto parts stores or do I have to order them and if I have to order them where do I order from.

Hi first thing we need to know is..automatic or standard shift. If it is a automatic the bushings are available from any of the mustang partsd suppliers, NPD,CJ's, Mustangs plus. If you don't have ALL OF THESE catalogues do yourself a favor and spend a day on the computer and request as many as you can. As far as the bushing fix it is pretty straight foward and doesn't require much in the way of special tools except allen wrenchs. I think if you look in the how to section of this site there is a thread on this subject. I am not telling you how to spend your money but I also suggest a couple of books put out by MUSTANG MONTHLY several years ago about how to restore your mustang. They are a bunch of articles that have been put into book form and show lots of "little stuff" like this in very good detail, some of it is a little dated but for the most part it is a good beginning. Good luck I hope you have as much fun with your car as I have had with mine. Just my opinion and prolly worth exactly what you paid for it. Tom

This was discussed back in June. Mustangmechanicalguy48 gave a very good explanation of how to replace the bushings in a C4. http://forums.mustangmonthly.com/70/6744532/vintage-mustangs/67-c4-shifter-is-sloppy/index.html
