I have a 68 mustang coupe that im going to be putting the original straight 6 200ci back into it. When I purchased the car the engine was not in the car and the previous owner was going to do the upgrade to a 289 so he had put in the engine bay to what I believe is the v8 motor mounts. The engine had some mounts on it but the rubber parts had worn with age and half of one mount was missing and the other is in bad shape. Can anyone please post a picture of how the l6 engine is mounted and where can I get some new mounts at? Any help here is appreciated because I do not know how this thing goes back together since I wasnt the one that removed it.

Hi, I can't help you specifically with your request but call Cj's pony parts and get a free catalogue and lots of times there are pictures of suspension stuff and how it should fit together. I would get as many free catalogues as I could find on the net, they are a source of information most people don't think about. I mentioned Cj's because they carry repop as well as used stuff from their salvage yard and will be able to set you right up. If there is a large mustang supplier in your area go see them, most will be able to show you a drawing of what you need. Sorry I can't help with the particular problem but my I6 knowledge is very limited. Tom

well i have found out from a fellow coworker who says he has restored more than a hand full of classic mustangs tell me that what i am looking for is called an engine stand. I know what everyone may bethinking right now. yea the engine stand of what you put the engine on to work n it when its outside of the car. that is true, but what i have learned is there is an engine stand that the motor mounts and isolators bolt to inside the engine compartment. so ill try to explain my situation with this new clarity.
the engine mount bolts to the engine block itself using 2 bolts, the engine mount isolator then bolts to the engine mount also using 2 bolts. the engine stand bolts to the isolator suing one bolt, and the engine stand bolts to the frame using 3 bolts.
I have been told that not a lot of people actually remove this engine stand piece simply because its easier to just take loose 2 bolts instead of 6, that is unless they are upgrading to a v8. hope this new information clarifies the situation a little better.

ok so i got flusterd trying to explain to parts places and the local auto parts shops, and searching the internet and coming to dead ends so i went out uncovered the car and double checked how it all goes together. heres a picture of the entire assembly that i am talking about.

this is from the passengers side and i took the picture to resemble as though you would be in front of the car looking at it. the top part 2 bolts vertical pattern bolts to the block. then the isolator(aka engine mount to some parts companies) bolts the upper part using 2 bolts. then the isolator bolts to the larger cast steel piece using the one bolt on the isolator. that big cast steel piece is what im after. i need one for the drivers side. again i have been told its an engine stand, whether that is true or not i do not know. bit i know i get my engine back later this week from the machine shop, and will start rebuilding it and the trans. but before i can put the engine in the car i need this one piece.. if anyone who has done the swap from a 6 to a v8 has one laying around they would be willing to part with, or can tell me what this part is so i can search my books and the internet to find it..

you want the (engine frame mount brackets) that bolt onto the frame itself at the shock towers. bolt those into the frame and the motor mount itself to the engine. that will make for a more easier installation of the engine. try calling national parts depot they carry everything you should need. if your local in fla let me know i have a set floating around in my garage i'll let go for a fifty dollar bill. i just need to find them in the mess i have. i know i have them cause i'm converting to a v8. i'm near tampa if that helps at all.

Thank you all for your help.. tom65stang if i was local there in FLA id come help you find them, unfortunately im 4 states away. If you do find them and wouldnt mind the hassle of shipping them you can send me a pm and we can work something out im sure. as for figuring out how it all mounts up, i got the mounts out of the trunk and actually bolted up the passengers side mounts and brackets after leafing through the stack of books i do have.
Its hard to figure out how everything goes together if your not the one who took it apart.

68 dreamstang...get yourself a haynes manual...it's fully detailed on most things...how to remove and reinstall. also just keep asking on the postings. as i have learned the only stupid question is the ones not asked.
