What is the correct shoe size for front/rear drum brakes on 66 L6 convertible? I'm not sure if the rear is 1 1/2 or 2 1/4. I've seen 1 1/2 listed on some sites and 2 1/4 listed on others. The front is 2 1/4.

1966 MUSTANG Convertible (I6,Sprint 200,3.3L,120HP,Original owner) (C-4 Auto rebuilt,Autolite 1100 carb) (Power steering,manual drum brakes: F&R,9 x 2 1/4) (Factory single exhaust,7.25" rear,2.83 ratio,P205/75R14 tires) (White power top,Candy Apple Red exterior,Red interior).

The six cylinder brakes are smaller than the V8 brakes. (9" vs. 10") I6 Fronts are 2.25 wide and rears are 1.5 wide (if you have the factory installed brake packages still) V8 fronts are 2.25 in wide and rears are 1.75 wide

There is no such thing as 1 1/2 " shoe width on a classic Mustang.  2 1/4 to 2 1/2 " is correct.

Must be a misprint in the factory service manual then.

No mistake in the FSM. My 66 "C" code coupe has been visually verified to have 10 x 1.75 rear shoes installed.

The front shoes are 2.25" wide (6 & 8 cyl).  The rear shoes are 1.5" for the 6 cyl cars and 1.75" for the V8s.  The drum diameters are 9" for a 6 cyl and 10" for the V8s.  I have a 66 "C" and a "T" and I can tell you what you already know - Don't abuse the original brakes on either of them, especially the T code.

I hate it when I am wrong about incidental things, but it seems I am wrong about the width of the rear shoes.
"65/66 Mustangs employed three rear ends, the 7 1/4 rear end for the six cylinder, the 8 inch for the V8 and the 9 inch for the hipo. I think thats why you see 3 different brake shoe sizes. Each one larger then the last. Presumably the standard V8 uses the 10 x 1.75 and the hipo the larger shoes but like soaring says, I would measure to be sure. "

good luck on getting anybody to copy and paste that URL.  This site really needs to have the ability to offer its' customers the ability to post links to other sites.  I brought this up a few months ago, and management has done nothing.
