I have a 1968 Mustang with a 351W and a Carter 4 barrel carb. This is the problem i have its an old car of course so i turn it on and it warms up, after that i put it in drive and press the gas and the car turns off. It only happens at the most inconvenient times, such as the light and at the stop signs on take off. So does anyone know whats wrong?

check the acclerator pump for starters its easy to do simply take of the air cleaner using a flash light look into the carb. manually with your hand open the throtle plate using the linkage you should see a squirt of fuel or small stream if not the accelorator pump is probably shot.

There should be absolutely no dead play in the accelerater pump linkage. When the throttle is moved, the pump should move. Also, the streams of gas should be solid, no spits or bubbles mixed in. Good Luck

I am in need of an honest dependable mechanic for my 1965 Mustang.  I live in the McKinney area.  I am having the same trouble with mine dying at lights and when accelerating.  I am getting gas to the carb.  Also have some transmission leaks.  Any suggestions on a good place.

I overhaul Motorcraft carburetors, so send me yours and I will only charge you for the kit.  PM me.
