Starter problem

went to start my 67 Mustang and battery was dead.  put the jumper box on it and it started cranking only to find out my wife still had the ignition keys in her hand.  i removed the jumper box and motor continued to turn over.  i had to disconnect the negative battery cable to get it to stop.  any ideas on where i should start looking for my problem>  Ignition, soleniod????

Please help

The solenoid is either stuck on or there is a signal to engage it. Pull the red-blue wire off and if it still is cranking give the solenoid a solid rap with a hammer or screwdriver handle.

so if there is a signal engaging the soleniod the it must be coming from the ignition switch correct?

Your starter relay is hung up.  That's the solenoid on the inner fender next to the battery.   Replace it and the voltage regulator as well.

Yes it's being geerated from the IGN sw or a short.

The Vreg? Soaring, I can go with the starter relay but not the Vreg (its in the charging circuit not the starting circuit)

I'm sorry, I must have had too much red in me when I wrote that.     It's whenever you replace the alternator that you automatically replace the VR.
