Hey Guys, I took my 67 convertible out this weekend for my official 1st drive, theres nothing like riding with the top down, cool wind in my hair, warm smell of colitas rising up through the air WHOA!!WHOA!! got lost there for a minute, Anyways as you all know Im a newbie, and I was wondering why is my car all over the road at high speeds. I got a little 6 in it, Ive heard a lot about sway bars but i thought they where for cars with bigger engines in them. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

All over the road can be caused by multiple things. Alignment, worn steering box, wear/looseness in idler arm bushing and related steering linkage parts, ball joints, bad tires. It's a process of elimination one by one and knowing what and where to look and observe. Two people, one doing, one watching for play in worn out parts. If there is a problem with any of these parts, a swaybar won't help one little bit. It's for body roll while cornering anyway.

Just my own experience CSM but try this. While the car is sitting in the driveway hold your finger steady at the steering wheel and rotate it with your other hand to take up the free play. See if there is more then about three inches of free play around the wheel from where your finger was. I have had several mustangs and the while the suspension is certainly a contributor, the steering box is usually the culprit when your wandering all over the road. You can dial in a little bit more caster and that helps but the steering box is usually worn out. Cushman is right, he gave you good advice, its just that I would do the steering box first, then see where I am.
