Good Day --

I am looking at a 68 and would like to know what the main differenced are between the 67 and 68 as my Lovely wife wants a 67 and I have found a nice 68 that I can pick up with out her knowing and suprise her for Chrismas...  that is a story I will get into if I can pull of the purchase.  A little back ground on me, I grew up in a bdy shop here in Oregon and went on to ASE Cert, Auto Diesel tech and have been a Mopar / Bowtie guy at hart but have always had a soft spot for the Blue Oval...  (soft in the head as my wife would say)   So needles to say I don't have a bunch of Mustang back ground other than a few rides and a little fixen' here and there.  Any tips on what to look for would be nice.

 Thanks a bunch!!

Most of the differences were cosmetic Hottshot. The 68 has different grill, with no bars, different tailight housing and cove insert. The 289 was dropped in favor of the 302, but many of them remained in production with 289's until the half year. The 68 also did away with that huge pad on the steering wheel and went with a more pleasing padded but wider insert on the steering wheel. Many a 68 has been repaired using parts from a 67. Look at your rocker panels and rear quarter panels for rust. The floor pans of course need to also be checked. Like most early mustangs it suffers from cowl rust out so run some water in your cowl and see if it ends up in the interior. Thats an expensive repair. Good luck and welcome to mustangville.

The side vents on a 67 are split in two and is a more subtle single chome piece on the 68. The interiors were pretty much totally revamped on 68. The seats are going to be a little beafier, and slightly shorter on the 68. The guages are also going to be a different look. They are very very similar though and to the untrained eye, most people can't tell you which one is which.
