I,m a shop manager in charge of a rather large car collection.  We just got in a 1965 "K" code Mustang, it is the wrong color as it is a 66 Bronze color and the tag says that it is code "J".  This decifers to Rangoon red.  The problem came up as the color that I see in hidden spots looks to be Poppy Red.  It's very orange!

I have typed in GOOGLE, "Rangoon Red" and there are as many cars with the paint code "J" that look like Poppy Red as there are The blood red of Rangoon Red!

What's up with this descrepency????

Paint code J is definitely Rangoon Red. Which is an orange/red. Paint code 3 is poppy red. You may have one of many missed tagged cars or it could have had a complete color change in an earlier life. If you would like to see a color chip on the original color, go to www.autocolorlabrary.com. Then you can decide

Hey.  I lied but I didn't do it on purpose.  (Elderly Brain Fade) One of my 66's is Signal Flare Red and is an "orangey" red.

Rangoon Red is a true RED!  There is no orange tint to it like you would see in a poppy red.  Also, Signalflare Red is lighter than Rangoon Red.
