hi! i've got a two tone pony interior and noticed a couple of differences among the few fastback pics i could find.                                                1. which color is the top of back seat supposed to be, insert or main color?                                  2. is there a "pony insert" on the back seats like the front?                                                  3. are the stitch lines on the back narrower(1.5 in.) than the front(2.5 in.)?                              4. are the stitch lines on the top back horizontal or vertical?
i'm thinking of getting later model front seats (69lowback,headrest) and wonder how far i'll have to go matching front and rear seats. how can i use newer seats with 65 colors or who sells the material by the square yard? any help would be appreciated.

wow! wordwrap made this hard to read! just a follow up for search, TMI referred me to kevin at laurel mountain mustang who gave me some info. you can order upholstery custom fit to match early colors to later year seats, as in 65 pony material on 69 seats w/headrests. there is a 60.00 charge added to the total. he also said that my rear seat had the 66 pattern,(narrower stitching), but i could get the same for the front. he also said fstbk rear seats didn't have the pony inserts. i just wanted to get a little better seat in front and the back seat is practically new.  of course for 1500.00 you could get modern highback pony seats from TMI, but that eats into my other planned upgrades! also, they do sell the material for around 30.00 sq.yd. but don't sell pony inserts separately. hope this helps someone

Hi skylight65 - it sounds like you have got it all covered. The width of the vertical stitching, above the pony insert, on my front and back 66 deluxe seats varies from 7/8 to 15/16. I went to a local upholstery shop in Vegas and found a red vinyl that is a dead ringer in color and texture for my interior and it was only about $10/sq.yd. I didn't record the maker or name, sorry. I'm using it for stitched trunk inserts (same style as the seats), package tray, padded A pillars, tops of my kick panels, and a custom built (at home) console. I'm making these tasteful (at leased I think they are) custom changes to increase the original spartan looks. It's nothing that can't be undone. I hope you get what you want also.  Good luck!

Skylight65,
There's an article in the Nov MM pg 43-45 that disusses TMI and the OEM of the vinyl getting together so the concurs correct upholstery was on that car. That's another option if you need to be that precise.

thanks, i'll have to find that. i didn't even notice the stitch widths until an upholsterer mentioned it. i usually have the back folded down.
