I can not offer too much good or bad. I joined because the local chapter of the Mustang Club required membership as part of becoming member of club. I have been a member for 4 years. Recently we voted to cease our membership with the national organization, since most members were not interested in the MCA. Also, we have 30 members, but the MCA required at least 10 to be MCA memebers to be associated. Personally, I don't think the MCA pays any attention to restomod or non concourse cars. My car is far from concourse and I intended it to be that way. I kept many of the unique features of the car, but opted to upgrade and modernize where ever possible. Power Disc Brake, Cowl Hood, Billet upper and lower grills, custom engine bay, paint, etc etc... basically anything that I would do to the car in 1966 if I was old enough and had the money to do it then. I think the MCA misses this whole area of restoration. Concourse is great, for those who want to spend a fortune and YEARS restoring. But my car is a hell of a lot more fun!!

Thank you for the honest responce. Ive been supprised with the lack of feedback on this topic, having been posted for nearly 2 weeks. I agree with you on the restomod, as my car will be far from concorse as well.

I bought mine from Mustangs Unlimited. I am not overly thrilled with the fitment. But to be honest, I don't know if it something the body shop could have corrected before painting. It has a bit of a hump in the middle. The gap on left an right is a little off, but acceptable. I had body shop paint the original hood at same time so I can switch back if I make some changes to the inside of the engine compartment. Also, I'm not knocking MCA...just not my preference. Email is pdaddezio@stny.rr.com if you want some pics

No i didnt think you were knocking mca, from what i hear alot of good info comes out of there. I just think people on this site, are hesitant to discuss topics other then the technical. No one likes to share an opinion, and i think it was nice to hear one.

I’ve been a member off and on a few times since the 80’s. I’ve been a continuous member probably about the last ten years. I owned and driven Mustangs since 1970 for pleasure and enjoyment. For the last ten years I’ve actually started to make it a hobby and join clubs and go to events.
All that being said, I figured if I was going to make it a hobby, I needed to be a member of the MCA. They’ve had some rough times and controversial things happen over the years but so has every other group/organization/government/ and anytime you get two of more people together. Some folks complain about the high perceived price of the dues but they have operating costs just like everyone else. I don’t feel any of the MCA officers are getting rich off of it and they are true volunteers in this for the love of the hobby.
If all you do is pay your dues and get the monthly magazine, then you may not be getting your money’s worth. However if you go to MCA sponsored events or purchase their merchandise, you usually do get a price break plus you get to associate with many other likeminded people who love their Mustangs as much as you.
Groups like the MCA have kept the Mustang marquee going when others have disappeared altogether or recently trying to make comebacks. Since 1977 they have sparked the interest in Mustangs that has sprung up an entire industry to help keep our classic Mustangs on the road. Nowadays when you go to Mustang shows you’re likely to see many later model Mustangs than classics. So yes, I support the MCA and thank them for what they have done over the years to keep Mustangs on the roads and not just trailer show cars.

I own a driven concours 66 coupe, and I enjoy trying to get it as stock as possible. The judges at MCA have helped and always answer my questions and they are absolutely the most knowledgeable mustang enthusiasts I have ever talked with. They can tell you what finish the clamp on the fuel line has and what bolt head was used in the fenders. Now restomods dont care,,, and I have a restomod also and I enjoy both ends of the hobby. I think MCA is trying to adjust to the restomod wave. Their knowledge base is unsurpassed as I am sure Don Farr and the rest of MM staff will tell you. I support them, I think they lean towards the restoration end of the hobby but there is room for both. I have never seen a restoration guy that didnt also enjoy a good well crafted restomod,,,they just hate to see things like a sun roof cut in a boss mustang(I hate that too,,,dang).

Mech guy, i hear you. This summer i saw a sun roof cut into a mach one. That is something i would never due.
Ive been trying to decide to join MCA or not, you can say im on the fence. I totally enjoy this hobby, but i dont have the desire at the moment to do a total concorse restoration. However, everything i do to my coupe, i make sure that with a little effort, it is totally reversible. Right down to storing the origianl 289 for future use and factory correct restoration. My real concern, is being that im restomoding at the moment, can i get anything out of it besides a few extra car cruises? What kind of things do they publish in the news letter? What "merchandise" do they sell at sponsored events? Im hoping that with enough information, i can get off the fence.
Thanks, and have a Great Holiday Season.

Sun Roof on a Mach One.... that is just wrong!!! BUT it was the owners preference. Some would say that putting a cowl hood on my car or removing all the badging and antenae was tastless... but it was my preference. Frankly, what I really love about the Mustang (any year) was the ability to easily modify and change the appearance to suit a persons preference. I remember when I was a kid, the first thing the older kids did with their Mustangs was change out the Air filter, the valve covers, the Shift lever....etc. If you like completely original that is great. I'll keep restomoding mine and someday, there might actually be a class for me to compete in in my area.

Trade you!!!!! I use stock hinges (they were chrome plated about 15 years) ago and light duty springs. Works great. Just have to resolve hump issue, which I think is a combination of allignment and hood construction.
