I just purchased a 68 and i live in Phoenix AZ.  I need A/C!  Any suggestions?  How do the under dash units work?  Are they very robust? or is the in dash kit a better option?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Where to buy also.

Hi mhedd123 - I lived in Phoenix with a 67FB for 8 yrs and I understand how you feel (or will feel)! Properly working and given time, either the under dash or in-dash units will do the job you’re looking for. My preference is the in-dash units because from what I can tell they seem to have a larger cooling capability. These days you can get a Hurricane (add in NPD catalog) or Vintage Air in-dash unit for around $1,200-$1,400 (w tax/shipping). Vintage Air's web site has a bunch of listings (http://www.vintageair.com/dealers_mfr_state_search.asp?state=NV) for suppliers. The original under-dash units are a little smaller and to me don't seem to put out as much. Although the new retro units say they are better than the original. Most of the parts houses (NPD, Paddock, etc.) sell under-dash units for around $900-$1,000 (w tax/shipping).  It depends on what you want to pay and the look you like.  Sell your grad-dads hunting rifle and stay cool this summer - good luck!!

Hey Mhebb123, did you ever get that a/c system installed? if so, which did you go with? and if you dont mind me asking, how much did you find it for?

i have a 68 w/ a 302 also and it currently has an under the dash a/c unit. I kinda want to convert to an indash unit but i want to find out if that works better than the under the dash unit. any feedback would appreciated.

Classic Auto Air sells in dash units for $1200-$1300 which replaces your heater and heater controls and gives you a very nice looking and performing A/C without losing knee room.
