My daughter managed to break the ignition key in the lock. Now the car can be started with a key stub jammed in the ignition. The "wingnut" spins. I'm looking at replacement ignition lock switches from Late Model Restoration Supply. Are there any brave souls who have done this before and would like to share advice?
Secondarily, will I need to use the new key provided for the new ignition lock switch, or is it possible to have the lock rekeyed? I'm trying not to spend too much.
Proud owner of a '94 red convertible (6cyl) and a '05 red conv Deluxe with pony grille.

If this is like my 92 explorer, you take the wheel off and disengage a key cylinder lock access hole that may be covered with a thin film of aluminum which is kinda down next to the steering shaft. It's not really a hard to do, you just need to follow a specifc process to do it. I suggest you get the process from the autozone DIY repair ALLDATA handbook which you will be able to access if you register (free of charge when i did it)good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I went to AutoZone DIY (still free) and was able to print the instructions. I'll post how it went when the part gets here.
Thanks again,

Success!!
The part arrived from RockAuto.com today (priority mail, they shipped it within hours of getting my PayPal payment). Instuctions from AutoZone DIY worked well, although they omitted some steps regarding removal of lower dash shrouds and supports. I was surprised how tough the Lower dash shroud bolts were to re-install, even after swabbing them with lithium grease. All in all a low-cost repair that took less than an hour. A great opportunity to work together on this with my 17 year-old daughter. The event even made her facebook page. Not often Dad can still be the hero. Thanks jlg2002, for steering me to the AutoZone DIY repair handbook.
