my son and i want to do front brakes swap  but dont want to reg brakes


i found several kits,, but we are going with a 03 or 04 rotors and calibers ,, we don't know about the booster i know we need a twin master cylinder my question is

1, is all boosters the same

2 and on the master cyl were does the front lines goes and the back lines, in think the front goes to the large one ( back ) revs

anything anyone else can add ??

Didn't hubs for metric in 97 ?

If so,That would mean new wheels and tires for the front

so can i use a new booster from a 65  or does it need to bigger i know we need a duel master cylinder i can get one for a 65 or 66 and a adjustable proportional value ,,    anything else ?

You can use a new booster for a 65, but you can't use a new booster "from" a 65. What I mean by that is that a "stock" booster for a 65-66 will not fit between the firewall and the shock tower with a dual master cylinder mounted onto it. The MC will hit the shock tower.

So, in order to use a dual MC in a 65-66 you need an after market booster set-up. Pick up any Mustang catalog and the new 7" booster units will be in there. You can buy them with our without the MC. The MC they will use is a disc brake '67 unit.

The large bowl on the dual MC is indeed for the front discs. The smaller bowl is for the rear drums. The disc brake calipers suck up more fluid than the wheel cylinders for the rear drums, hence the need to have a larger reservoir for the discs.

You will indeed need a proportioning valve, and it can be a new adjustable one if you want. Everybody uses them now. They plumb inline on the rear brake line to decrease the pressure to the rear drums, i.e. so the rear drums don't lock up before the front discs have a chance to grab.

With regard to which MC to use with 2003-2004 calipers - I don't know. The reservoir bowls in the MC are designed for the calipers they are meant to work with. If the new calipers suck up more fluid than 66 calipers as the pads wear down, then you might find yourself running dry on fluid unexpectedly. However, for all I know the new calipers use less fluid than the old calipers.

I thought I'd just throw something in from my old fart experience and adjustable proportioning valves. I have a 66 stock disc front and big drum rears. The stock proportioning valve started leaking and for a while I bypassed the leak and ran it with equal pressure front and back. Not good especially on wet pavement. The backs want to lock up as you know. I had thought for years about adding rear discs but I didn't want to spend the bucks (I'm cheap). So, I rebuilt the rear drums, new cylinders, drums turned for the first time and we're lucky to have a full service brake and clutch shop in my town that shaved the new shoes to exactly fit the curve of the newly turned drums. I bought an adjustable prop valve from Summit. Took it out for a test drive to burn in the shoes and adjust the prop valve. The brakes were soooo much better, but after several hard stops and several adjustments to reduce pressure to the back, I found the spot where front and back worked together equally, I could not believe what I had been missing. I don't even need rear discs now, I'm not racing road courses so for street driving it's all I need. Being able to fine tune for tire variations or weight distribution is very handy. Just thought I'd ramble on a little.

thanks guys for the info its good stuff  ,,now i know more about this ,,i know it would have been easier to buy the kit but he wanted the cobra setup  larger rotors and things ,,  we'll get this thing right... so any 7" booster with a  stock duel M/C i know they was some mustangs that came out with duel M/C  even with disk in from  right ???? ,,  and i know there is very little room  there under the hood

i will probably have to remount the new booster   cause of the holes not lining up  to fire wall ... would i have to get a different brake pedal???
