Hi-

I have heard various opinions on what is correct.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

-67 and 68 Shelby's ONLY (140 speedo and 8k tach)

-67 and 68's small/big block (120 speedo and 6k tach)

I have been told the above was standard and a that '68 big block equipped with the optional tach option could NOT have ever had a 140 speedo/ 8k set up- that it was reserved for Shelby's only.

Also- regarding the 'redline'; I have heard on 67's the speedo had the 'redline' and on 68's the redline was located on the tach.

Please help sort this out for me.

THANK YOU!

I have 2 68 GT's.  Both have redline speedos at 70 mph.  The big block has factory 8k tach/120mph speedo.  Small block has no tach.I don't know the factory rules/details, but these are original cars.

Great. I have a 390 with a 120/ 8k with redline speedo and was told that the tach was prob a reprint because big blocks only had 6k tachs. But mine all looks to be original.

You have been a big help.

Thanks for the reply.

I have a 68 GT that came with a 140K speedo and 8k tach. I have heard of this before from others, but I have not seen it on another car. My GT was fully loaded with the deluxe interior group which included the center console and overhead console with map lights, the 'blinker' hood and all the typical GT option group stuff. 302 V8. I don't know if all of the options somehow managed to rate such a set of gauges. I suppose it's still a bit of a mystery.

So this has been of no real value other than to be another mysterious example.

Just another example, referring to my previous post,-One of the 68 GTs that I have is a 302/4 spd, and has the deluxe package as well.  That's the one that has no tach at all.  I read on a post somewhere that as the cars moved down the production line that they would install an 8k tach if they were out of 6k's etc.  Maybe that's all there was that day and you got the 140 MPH speedo.  Like the previous post, this just stirs the question pot.
