Ok so you guys were so awesome helping trace down the ignition problem. Thanks so much really. I have decided to bring this to the table too, I have ran the speedo cable from the speedometer to the transmission but it is not connected at the transmission because I cant seem to get the silver thing in the transmission out. I have a T-4 tranny if that helps at all. Anyway...I have pushed and pulled and yanked and mutilated this piece until it needs dental records to be recognized, but she still wont budge. I know you are gonna laugh and say what a green kid but hey we all gotta learn. Any ideas how to get this thing that seems to be cemented into the transmission out?

The tranny end of the speedo cable housing is cylindrical in shape and about an inch long on most old Fords. The driven gear clips on to the end of the speedo cable that protrudes from the housing. Sounds like the driven gear may have gotten mashed due to misalignment with the driving gear inside the tranny. I would suggest being sure the speedo cable (tranny end) retaining bolt is removed. Then spray some WD-40 or other anti-sieze stuff on the area. You may want to try carefully prying between the speedo cable housing and tranny body to see if you can get the end to move out of the tranny a bit. If you can, then spray some more and keep repeating the process until it pops out. You can always strong arm it out with a pair of vice grips and then just replace the stubborn old cable with a new one. If you strong arm it try twisiting just slightly with the main force pulling straight back and out so as not to subject the internal driven gear to any damage. Just keep at it and it should come out. there is a small rubber seal around the cylindrical cable body end that may have just dried out and bonded like glue to the tranny housing. The slight twisting and pulling may break that bond and the lubricant won't hurt to set it free either.

Hey blue289coupe66 (green kid) - Try 'Liquid Wrench' and use the liberally spray tube to get the fluid projected into the gears and housing. Let it soak for a while (15 min) and then spray it a few more times to be sure. Then try and get it loose.

I have sacrificed a flat bladed screwdriver for such problems by filing or grinding it like a chisel and tapping it under the rim.
