Does anyone have any ideas about this type of problem? What Iam talking about is on my 65mustang engine, the carburator and valve covers have an oxide build up on them. really looks bad. Is this a chemical reaction w/aluminium or the result of electrical leakage like electrolysis? thanks for any info. john

Describe the condition of each, but on the surface it may be a little of both.
Aluminum reacts with air (oxygen) to form Al2O3 or aluminum oxide (white).
If the stamped steel valve covers are painted then it just might be normal oxidation accelerated by the fact that the engine is negatively grounded to the chasis and there may be some electrolysis/cathodic corrosion taking place too.
