Removed cotter pin and nut but can't get stud out of center link?  Big hammer didn't work.

Try a "pickle fork" taper stud removal tool available at local auto parts store.
It might persuade that unit to come apart.

Auto-zone has a "puller" tool(small pitman arm /tie rod end) for rent that pushes the stud out of the draglink with press action while resting on the link and by not hammering, I highly recommend it's use.

jlg2002 is correct. Do not wack the tapered end of the slave cylinder, or the ball stud on the control valve with a hammer. You can wack the outside of the drag link though with a 3 pound sledge (small heavy hammer) and it should fall out. That's Mustang Plus's recommended method. Barring that, there is a special ball joint tool about the size of your fist that has a thin fork on one end and a threaded bolt on the other. I bought one years ago from an automotive shop. It's the tool to use. If you work on your car regularly I suggest buy one and add it to your tool collection. You will use it again down the road.

You also might want to research the Ford Explorer and the Lincoln MKS.
