I am having a 70 coupe painted and looking at the paint in the can, it looks a lot different than what is on the car now.  The color was originally Bright Gold Metallic (K).  In looking at the paint chips on-line and car pics it looks more like a 72 color Medium Yellow Gold (6C).  I know the car has been painted 1-2 times and this may be what the last color was.  Almost all the pics I've seen of the Bright Gold Metallic, it doesn't shine or have much depth to it.  Kind of a dull color.  Some pics even looks like it has a slight green tint to it in the bright light. Can of paint looks a little green as well.   On-line article in Mustang Monthly has a 70 Boss in Medium Gold Metallic.  I can't find this code anywhere.  Not listed on 69/70/71/72 ppg paint chips I can find.  It was supposed to be an original (although rare) color.  Found a color that looks similar Gold Glow (6F) but it's a 72 color as well.  Are the paint chips at store closer to actual than what you see online?  Different sites have the same chips listed but look a lot different.  Trying to find the best representation before he shoots it.  Any help is appreciated.

OK, KS one thing you should know is that most all paint chips are ink, not paint. They only represent a close representation of the color. Online color chips can be all over the board due to so many variables. So, have a spray out done of the color you have to make sure it’s what you want. There can also be significant difference between paint companies as well as the type of paint you are looking at. The Mustang when new was painted with Acrylic Enamel. If you are looking at some type of current technology in paint, such as base clear or a single stage acrylic urethane, you will see some color shift. The older pigments may not exist today to achieve an exact match with a urethane paint product. So, have a spray out done and check to make sure it’s what you like. If it does not match to your expectation then maybe it can be tinted, which I don’t advise. Because of future needs you may have. You know, it happens.  If it not what you’re looking for, then check other paint codes, etc.
