Hello All,
I have a few ideas on how to put the "inners" of a 65 door back together, but I'm looking for some other ideas from the members on this site, please reply if you have done this and the method that worked best for you.
Thanks
Scott

Look at a Mustang shop manual for visual refernce to where everything goes. The main item is the window scissors/track mechanism that raises and lowers the side window. The door handle/lock mechanism is next. Once all set up in accordance with the shop manual adjust the wing window and side window adjustments so your side window seals and tracks properly. This procedure is also outlined in the shop manual. It helps if you have a working "good" door to look at as a guide while you do this. If you don't have one ask for or find pictures or illustrations of properly installed door guts to use as a guide if you don't have the shop manual. After you do it once or twice it becomes pretty easy to figure out and you won't need to refer to anything. The first time is the hardest. Don't forget to use new nylon glides in the window tracks when you put it back together or you will be doomed to doing it over when one of the old glides cracks or breaks off and the side window gets stuck at half mast.

Thank you. What shop manual are you speaking about, I have a few, not sure if mine actually tells the steps. Everything I have to put back in is mostly new. Tonight I am putting new windows in the frames, and new felt on window guides. Thank you for your input. I think I'm going to take pictures as I go along to document, does not seem like many have documented the steps.

I replaced the door handles and one of the window regulators on my 65 coupe many years ago. I do remember the window regulator being pretty difficult to change out. I don't think I used a shop manual because I was simply exchanging the parts. I remember having a few choice words working on the regulator though. Good luck.

Talking about the original Ford Mustang Shop Manual for your year car. You can get them repro at Mustang resto shops, online, etc. Look at section 17 under body, doors and windows. It shows everything you'll need to know and the proper procedure for installing and adjusting.

Your steering box might work. It may not be exactly the right ratio as would come from the factory unless you have a GT model that has the slighly quicker 16:1 ratio manual steering box (HCC-AX). The standard power steering box (HCC-AW) also had a slighly quicker ratio of 16:1. The standard manual steering box (HCC-at) you seem to have that has a 19.9:1 ratio. The steering boxes came with metal tags on top of them with the designated HCC-??> number on it so you could tell the ratio. The other way to tell is just count how many turn you have to turn the sterring wheel from full left to full right. The GT and power steering boxes had 3 3/4 turns lock-to-lock while the standard manual boix had 4 5/8 turns lock-to-lock. About a one turn difference. If you aren't into performance driving you might like the power steering addition to your slower ratio box since it will require even less effort to turn it. The closer the ratio the more effort is required to turn the steering wheel. Check with a Mustang resto shop to be sure your slower ratio box won't hang up the hydraulic ram with the extra turn required to go lock to lock.

I have the Jim Osborn manuals for everything, did not realize that was the "Bible" for installation.
Thanks
