Excessive oil out the breather

I have a 66 289 that I recently put a performer series cam, intake and carb on with a high flow oil pump. During my build I removed the heads for inspection. Now I'm getting a lot of oil out the breathers, which I didn't have before. I don't have excessive smoke out the exhaust.

i built a 460 with a HV oil pump and a PVC and it always blew oil out the breather and had oil film in the intake plenum. i figured the rings didnt seat all the way but the engine never smoked and hauled azz.

Check to be sure you have your PCV hooked up correctly to your carb or carb spacer. It is meant to draw air IN through your breather and down into the crankcase and then up into your carb to be burned off. If not, you will have pressure build up in the crankcase and the only place for it to escape along with oil vapor is out the breather.

Check the oil pressure. The new pump may be puting out a bit too much pressure for the car.

You may need to change to another style of valve cover that has more baffling around the oil filler / breather holes. It also makes sense for a street car to have one valve cover cap sealed and the other open and feeding the airfilter, thru a hose which creates a closed crankcase system.jlg
