68 door adjustment

im sorry if this is a repeat post but i have searched the forums and havent found much useful information on aligning the doors on my mustang.
i am having to replace the passengers door on my 68 coupe. and i can get the alignment close and know about what to do, as for the in and out adjustments and the up and down. But seeing as how this is a replacement door from another mustang, which i bought through ebay, i know the fitment will not be right without some fitment issues. The rear of the door has a 1/16 inch gap if that from to to bottom, but would like to at least an 1/8 of an inch there, but cant move the door forward anymore. as for the fit between the rocker and the door theres 3/8 of an inch gap at the rear of the door and 1/8 inch gap at the front of the door.
so you so know you know the issues im having here, here is the big question. can i remove the door and the plates in the body that the hinges bolt to and drill out a little, or grind some to allow the door to move forward more? im thinking i can fudge the gap at the bottom of the door by allowing the rear fitment to taper to take out the large gap at the bottom of the door. kinda share the differences a little to get the best appearance. i have tried using the hinges off of the replacement door and the hinges off of the original door and to get the fit i have now.
any help anyone has will be a great help.

dont remove any plates...they are set to specs. you'll have to adjust the doors a little at a time. when you took the old doors off you might have found a bunch of shims fall out. use them if they are in good shape. it will be hit and miss to adjust the doors to perfection. i went through the sam problem with my 65 coupe..EVERYTIME i got frustrated i put the tools away and tryed again at another time. 40 yr's ago nothing was lined up perfect on these cars so you'll have alot of hit and miss putting things back together. if the doors you found on ebay or original they might have to be shimed abit different then your old ones...if they ar after market then again you have alot of tweeking to do.
again just dont remove those plates inside the door frames...you'll be sorry if you do

Interesting comment> I've not seen shims on the doors on the mustangs. I have first hand experienced the adjustment of the doors on my 66 and had to remove the cowl panel nut plates to do repairs, its not too bad to access if you have the inner kick panel off and the lower aft front fender loose. I use the lower sill and rear quarter gaps as constants, then adust the front gap as necessary to split the difference. Get it close and then one hinge at a time manipulate the the gaps until you get what you want. jlg

finally getting it where i want it thanks for the info on one hinge at a time deal. must have been my problem the whole time. get the door hung and one adjustment at a time and keep working till i get it right.. as for the shims i read an article about using the shims to get the rear corners of the door adjusted in and out for a smooth transition from quarter to door.. again thankyou for the insight, it has come in handy.

The most occurring event when uPVC door needs adjustment is that when you go to lift the handle up and it seems "stiff". If this is happening you need to make proper adjustments with your uPVC door or call in an expert.
If you continue to carry on using the lock there is a very good chance the lock will fail and the worse case scenario, it can fail in the locked position when you’re outside. This will mean getting a locksmith to not only get you in but also most likely change the whole locking mechanism, which will be inevitable an expensive affair.
You can adjust the PVC, PVCu, uPVC door by first opening the door and try to lock the door in the open position, if it works fine then the problem is with the keeps or http://upvcdoorsuk.blogspot.com/2009/08/upvc-door-adjustment-uk-london.html, the lock is fine

I have no clue as to what you're going on about.
How does this relate to adjusting the door hinges?
