I changed a black to parchment with great results. I sanded/smoothed some light surface rust issues, used a bonding primer, then used light repetitive coats of interior spray paint I got from Virginia Classic Mustangs. I went over the surfaces lightly and took hours letting each layer dry-about 5 coats in some places.

It's been a while, but I think I got 5 cans and used 4. I used it anywhere else that needed a touch as well. Consider vinyl dye for some of the plastic pieces that flex.

The interior of that car sees little abuse or daily scuffing, so remains in great condition. I didn't try any other product, so I have no comparison. I used the cans because it was hard to get the right shades/codes/match with rest of the interior and upholstery. If I was going to black, I might prefer that someone who really knows painting to spray it with appropriate paint. It came out nice, but I was carefully "winging it".
