I just put a disc brake conversion kit from SSBC on my 65 coup and found the 14" rims bearly clear the kit and that the balancing weights are rubbing. I would like to put 15" style steel wheels on. What rim and tire size will just bolt on without causing any additional problems? The car is a stock 65 w/289 and has new 620 front springs and new standard 4 leaf rear springs. The 14" rims that are on now have 215 60 14 in front and 235 60 14 in rear and didn't have any issues until I put on the disc brakes. Thanks

Sometimes puting a 1/4 or 3/8 inch spacer ring from auto parts store beween wheel and hub allows enough clearance to keep the rims and tires you have on the car without going to alot of expense. Just a thought.

I recently put 15x8 styled steel wheels on my (new) stock suspension '66, with 205/65/15 tires.  The sidewalls just clear the UCA ball joint knuckle.  Other owners will repute that you can run up to 225/60 but that was not my experience.  Good luck with your project.  Would love to hear how the SSBC conversion works for you.  I am planning to do the same to mine.

Hi! I put SSBC disc's on the front and back of my "modified" '66 coupe.  They were easy to install and the the SCCB folks were great to work with.  After install the left front caliper leaked and they shipped a new one ASAP. Great people to work with.  But remember if you are running manual brakes (like I am) it takes a lot of muscle to push them!  I'm looking at going to a power booster.

As to tires, I have and used a Wheel-Rite (a plastic arm thing that installs on the hub/rotor and you can adjust to see what will fit).  If you are going to replace the rims and tires you might want to look at 17" as they will fit over the ball joint.  I'm sure if you run the car to a wheel and tire shop they can give you the correct stock 15" set up and can advise on 17".  I went through American Muscle.com as I have flair's and a "long" 9" rear end so I could use late model back spacing.  I hope this helps!
