hi All,

I have recently reacquired the first car that I owned many years ago in high school, a 65 coupe.  Way back then it needed it's quarter panels and several pieces of the trunk replaced and today it still does.

Right now the left quarter is off of the car and I'm looking for suggestions as to the order in which to replace the sheet metal.  Both quarter panels and wheel wells, left and right trunk floor, and the rear trunk brace all need to be replaced.

Should I start by removing the rear trunk brace, tail light panel, etc?  Then remove the left trunk floor, left inner and outer wheel wells, then replace in the reverse order, finally reinstalling the left quarter?  Repeat the whole process for the Right hand side and finally replace the rear trunk brace, tail light panel, etc.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

thanks, Aaron

Maybe take everything off that is bad and then put new parts in place and make sure all seams and panels are properly aligned then tack weld in place and double check before final permanent welding. The replacements won't be exactly like what you take off. If you do it a piece at a time things could dominoe on you. Better to do it all at once.

I'am currently doing the same thing. I have the body sitting on 5" C channel frame to support it from front to back and tied into key points along the way to hold the rear frame rails in place, as the quarters and inner and outers also help support the rear frame rails, so if you start cutting out anything without the body being supported it will sag and or twist. i'am currently replacing about 80% of the car... more rust than mustang....
