Can anyone help me out?  I’m restoring a 68 fastback.  At the moment I have the oem suspension and I am thinking of upgrading.  Can anyone tell me if they are having issues with globel west suspension, total control products or heidts mustang 2 suspension.  What suspension do you recommend to use?  Or is it really necessary to upgrade?

Hi!  A couple of quick questions.  What do you plan to do with the car?  If it is just a drive on week ends show and shine (fairly stock). the "stock stuff" is Ok. I would upgrade to poly stuff and it should be fine.  If you plan to install a larger engine (modular, etc.) and want more room a coil over, Mustang II type will allow you to remove the shock towers in the engine compartment.  If you are going to race and want to address bump steer and handling a rack and pinion (power or manual) is a good choice.  I guess to depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.  Each has some plus and minus.  More info would help!  Mel

everyday driver as well as having fun with it.  its been sitting for 8 years and im tired of seeing potential rot away.  i'm planning on putting in a 302 stroked to a 347 with alu heads. holly carb, msd, painless wiring, elc fan, Automatic, myb AOD. as suspension goes, i put in brand new oem suspension 8 years ago. just thought that i should take that out and place newer suspension.  i'm upgrading to disk brakes x4. i was also thinking of power rack.  any suggestions??

Sounds good.  I'm looking at the same thing.  I want to get a power rack in my '66.  I have been looking at the "bolt on rack's" like Randall's'; they get around my long tube headers and deep 8 Qt. pan.  The Mustang II type weld on the front sub-frame extensions and I have read and been told that this puts all the weight on the "frame" rather than into the shock towers as designed.  The concern that was kicked around was "what holds those front sub-frames in place"?  The answer is the pan and firewall, both light sheet metal.  Now when you get a torky stroker what happens?  I don't know its a concern but someone else might jump in and discuss.  I'm looking at the former.  Also, if you are looking 4X discs . . .. I might suggest you make sure to include POWER brakes.  They require a LOT of pedal pressure!  You will also want to decide on the front end FIRST, as the brake choice may OR MAY be compatible with the front end choice!  I hate having to buy twice!  Let me know what you think and if you decide!  Mel

im thinking of going with global west suspension; 1967-70 Mustang negative roll coil over kit for small blocks (single adjustable shocks), i have 1971 torino spindles with disk (single calipers), imma upgrade to 4 piston calipers, i've already spoken to a global susp. representative.  ... they said, i need larger spindle to work with the negative roll.  they suggested their own spindles (around 350 bucks) they also suggested torino spindles from 1971-1973 which i have a pair. i came across ABS power brake inc. and they have the brake upgrades.  one proble that arose up is the global west power rack might have an issue with header clearance.  what do u think?  have you been watching the power block on spike tv?  right now they are building a fastback; u should check it out

I will! Thanks.  I found the same issues with spindle and disc brakes that you describe.  My issue is I have already installed SSBC disc's front and back so I have a financial issue (call me cheap) changing what I have.  I can't remember if it was Mustang Monthly or the sister publication Modified Mustang's and Fords but they did a tech article on the Randall's Rack.  Look on both sites and I'm sure you will find it.  I know that Total Control Products does the same type; you bolt in the rack and use your current spindles, brakes and other suspension.  They run about $2,000 with power steering.  The Randall's unit will clear my long tube Hooker's and my 8 quart oil pan, all a good thing! I have to consider the cost of shipping up here so that some times drives you choice ( I HATE having to pay more for shipping than for the product!)Let me know what you end up with!  Thanks Mel
