Yeah, I don't know why some people have such bad attitudes. I have a 66 Coupe and a 78 Trans Am - most folks give a thumbs up and a smile, and the one's who also drive older cars usually wave as if to say "Hey Brother!"  But for some reason it's all the one's in new Vettes and BMW's who feel the need to want to race you or shoot the bird....go figure. That's what I enjoy about this and the Pontiac Forums, we are all on the same page and don't have to deal with such idiots.  peace to all.

PS. Shiftthis, I posted something on the Pontiac Forum a while back and it repeated 4 times - I don't know how to delete them either, hate when that happens!

I have a 67 Coupe, Dk.Green with a Black Landau top on it, I picked it up from Colorado last August, it's a nice lil California car, treated well but definately a long way from perefect or where I would like it to be.

The last nice September Saturday just before I put it away for the winter, I took it to show a few friends...on the way I saw a young kid with a late 60's Dart, he gave the salute, not the finger, but a lil nod of respect for my wheels, on the way home the I shared the same thing with the guy driving the Silver 65 Vette, later, the looks I rec'd were from the older guys driving the brand new Mustang GT's, my lil coupe turns their heads...I think that's pretty cool, but I didn't get it for the attention it gets, I have it because of how it makes ME feel...I think that's what we all share...and those people with the bad attitudes, regardless of what they drive don't fit in...you would've thought though that the lesson from kindergarten would have sunk in by now...if you can't get along and play nice...you get to play by yourself.

You know I have mostly the opposite problem, well not a problem really. I find people love these cars and owners and others will talk and talk for hours. Sometimes they wont stop!! I mean like Grnhornet I love the attention that people show you on the highway and I love to talk about these cars to people,,, but every now and then you get some guy that drones on for hours,,,, whewwww. My buddy and I have signals so that if we need rescuing we nod(which means get me away from this guy he is painting my brain cells black)and then he will come over and help me get away. But for the most part, that's the fun of going to these shows is to show off your car and talk to car people who are the nicest people in the world. (only an occasional drone). Sometimes the people talking to me are probably thinking ****this guy just drones on**** but I do enjoy the talk at car shows both with knowledgeable people and with people just starting out.

I've been attending and enjoying Mustang shows for more than 25 years.  The Mustang hobby is "life" in miniature.  There are people who just aren't nice people.  Some are rude, insulting, and hurtful.  It is best to consider the source whenever rudeness happens to you.  A good friend of mine once said the really arrogant ones are the ones who didn't make the team in high school softball who also stood on the stag line at proms.  They become hobbyists in positions of power or they do an incredible restoration and suddenly become quite full of themselves.  That's where politics takes all the fun out of what is supposed to be fun.

I would never walk up to someone and start picking their car to pieces, and I've seen lots of things done to Mustangs that bug me.  I've seen rudeness happen dozens of times through the years.  This is one reason why I've never personally shown a Mustang.  Didn't want some hot shot picking it to pieces.  Didn't want to mix words with someone like that.

Our job as hobbyists is to make sure we treat people politely and respectfully whether we agree with them or what they've done or not.  When we are rude, we chase off people who will probably never be back.  Remember - we have but one chance to make a good first impression with new people.  Once they're gone, they're gone forever.

I had a boss who called it the 80-20 rule.  In any group of people 80% will be great...20% will be jerks.  You must live in a very unhappy place!  In my experience the old car enthusiast crowd is more like 95-5.  I have owned my 67 convertible for 23 years now and lived in two different states.  In all that time I have only had one bad experience with some punk teenage kids actually throwing stuff at my car as I drove by.  Other than that I have found that most people in the car enthusiast realm to be great people.  Most of them go out of their way to be nice and help in any way possible. There is always the fun banter with the Chevy and Dodge guys but it is born out of mutual respect as everyone understands how much work and dedication it takes to keep these old cars going.  Those "new" Vette and BMW guys are just jealous The mustang they wanted probably sold before they could get approved from the bank.    I can't hardly pull into a gas station or a stop light without someone offering to buy the car or listening to a story about how they used to have one and wish they had never sold it!  After 20 years I am used to it but it always cracks me up when I let my aunt or brother or friend take it out for a ride and they come back all freaked out by all the people staring, pointing, hooting, honking, waving and stopping to talk to them about it.  These cars a great source of joy not just for those of us who own them but also for large portion of those who don't.  Don't forget if you run into a jerk its not about you....it's about them!  Just move on and know that your odds just went up that your next encounter will be with someone great!

i rember the first day i was towing my stang back home from Oklahoma. Stopped at a local Mcdonalds for a bite. As i was pulling out of the parking lot a convertible stang was coming from a red light down the road, and slowed way down and let me out so he could check out my recent purchase. Even though it didnt have the engine and trans in the car and the front end looked like an abortion, we gave each other that nice car stare and the appreciative wave. My wave was to let him know hey you have a nice car, and figured his wave ment yours will be nice with lots of work.

After i moven into my new house the guy across the alley behind me started telling me about all his nice cars, like his Chevell,  54 ford, 32 ford, etc.. then told me about the local Mustang club and the car meets once a month at the local parking lot.. We both watch out for each other make sure nobody that doesnt belong there stays away.. But when i went to my first club meeting to pay my yearly dues, found out that my neighbor had already paid them for me.. Next time i saw him out i joking told him " i got a bone to pick with you" he laughed and said uh oh i didnt do it LOL and i laughed too and told him he didnt have to pay the club dues for me, but i appreciate it.

When you do run across the good people they will be your friend forever. Still need to find something i can do for him in return. ..

Ah I have never met any real good guys. There all *** with some sort of fantasy in there head. None of the so called car guys never want to help out, but they sure have a lot of questions for me when something goes wrong. Like on this site. Either we have a bunch of stuck up old farts on here, or totally brain dead kids. You can ask questions all day here, and i have seen so many questions left unanswered. Kinda sad really. I can personally say that I am the nicest guy I have ever met and will help out anyone that is truly needing the help. But i have yet to find that. So let it be known that I have learned how to do two people jobs on my car with only two hands.

Ah come on Riley,
Most of the people I've come to know on this, and the Pontiac forums are really nice folks. I look forward to getting home from work every day and checking out the forums just to have some sanity from the very people you are talking about.
It feels like a friendly community where we can all help out each other and joke at the same time. I think the real jerks are not interested in joining in on forums like this, and they are usually ignored. We can all discuss issues we relate to without some idiot trying to sell viagra, or some turd bringing up politics.
Just my observation, peace.
