To be able to commemorate the half-centennial of the iconic muscle car, Ford is redesigning from the ground-up and discarding the retro-inspired design of the prior two editions. Ford wants to be able to attract younger buyers. This is because it is almost the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang. Though muscle cars are typically the province of younger people, it is felt that the current Mustang, with its retro-styling that recalls the classic Mustangs, appeals more to older people.
