Unfortunately Ford did not archive/save production and build data from the '64 1/2-'66 Mustangs. The assembly plants (three of them) were working in three shifts each around the clock to build these things and Ford simply didn't have the room to save the data, so it was destroyed. It wasn't until '67 model year Ford started keeping records, as it was easier and more compact with punch cards and other forms of data storage they didn't have previously.
Your best bet for options and colors is to look for untouched areas of the car (under the package tray or dash pad) and being a Dearborn built car you should have a body buck tag mounted on the inner fender. If you do, you'll find option codes, color code, build date (scheduled), and more there.
See here for more details and what the buck tag looks like: http://www.kcode.net/bucktags.htm

Yep, Mark's right on. As a 66 owner with similar problems - it took me several months of asking primarily e-bay sellers with cars with similar VIN numbers as mine so I could dial in a build date. (my car was a San Jose build) So if you strike out with the buck tag, the rest of the data can be located by looking for ID tags on the rear end & transmission. The DSO will probably remain blank unless you arbitrarily pick one. The new data plate can be bought from Marti based on the data you provide him. good luck with your project.

Yeah... i'm restoring a 65 code C ragtop and you definitely need the #'s, if the door tag's missing look on the driver side fender under the hood. The tranny ID on mine is on the passenger side of the tranny on the servpro plate. You might can find when the tranny was built that way. Good luck
